Lucknow: narrow escape for taxi driver as road caves in near balrampur hospital

LUCKNOW: On Tuesday, a massive crater unexpectedly emerged because of a collapsed road near the Balrampur hospital in the Wazirganj neighbourhood of Lucknow. A cab driver narrowly avoided a potentially dangerous situation.

The road, which is under the control of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), gave way as a result of three days of nonstop rain. With worries of accidents and cars sliding into the crater, the cave-in poses a serious risk to moving vehicles.

The event happened at 8:30 am when a cab was travelling close to Lucknow Christian College's Red Gate when a section of the road gave way, almost causing the taxi to crash into it. Fortunately, the driver used the brakes to prevent the car from plunging into the crater, which allowed bystanders to save the driver. Later, the driver succeeded in pulling the taxi outside, and he continued.

The road, which has been severely damaged by constant rain, is reportedly showing fissures all over its surface. This highlights the road's perilous state even more and raises questions about its stability. Even with the damage, commuters are still at risk because both light and heavy cars still utilise this highway.

A local business owner named Majahat Hussain said, "The road sees constant traffic, including roads, buses, and ambulances that run around-the-clock. Due to the ongoing use of these vehicles on the damaged road and the consequent increased danger of accidents and infrastructure damage, this situation poses a high risk.
LMC Mahesh Chandra Verma, chief engineer, stated, "Prima facie, it looks like the road's collapse was caused by persistent rains. We're looking into it, and we'll have the repairs done quickly.
