Heroin worth Rs 200 crore seized near international border in Amritsar

 


The Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) carried out a joint operation, according to the police, and made the seizures.

Chandigarh: Around 40 kilos of heroin worth Rs 200 crore was discovered in the early hours of Saturday in the Panjgarian neighbourhood near the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar. This info was provided by the police.

The Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) collaborated on the operation that resulted in the seizures, he claimed.

Senior police officer for Amritsar's rural area Gulneet Singh Khurana stated that the police had got information that infamous smuggler Nirmal Singh, who lives in Gharinda, Amritsar, would be bringing heroin from Pakistan to the International Border (IB).


The BSF was informed, according to the police.

With the discovery of 39 packets of heroin weighing 40.810 kg, police claimed to have thwarted a significant attempt to import drugs from Pakistan.

Senior police official Dinkar Gupta reported that joint teams from the Punjab Police and BSF had also successfully recovered 180 grammes of opium and two plastic pipes in addition to the heroin, which was produced in Pakistan.


Nirmal Singh is wanted by the Tarn Taran police in connection with the 1 kg of heroin found last year, and Khurana said the police have begun a large search operation to find him. He was also added that an investigation was ongoing.

A lawsuit has been filed in this regard, he said, adding.
