Hackers are taking advantage of the widespread interest in cryptocurrencies, though, to fool unsuspecting internet users into downloading malicious apps that carry harmful spyware and adware on their smartphones. 

The good news is that Google has located and eliminated these bad actors. In truth, eight harmful apps that were misrepresented as bitcoin mining apps and promised consumers substantial returns on their investments in cloud mining operations have been taken down from the Google Play Store.

According to security company Trend Micro, analysis revealed that these eight malicious apps were deceiving users into viewing advertisements, paying for subscription services with an average monthly cost of $15 (or approximately $1,115), and paying for increased mining capabilities without providing any kind of benefit in return. 

They were swiftly taken down by the company when the company informed Google Play of its findings. The point is that these apps might already be installed on your phone even though Google has deleted them from the Play Store. So, you must swiftly find them on your phone and remove them.

Two of these apps, according to the research website, are paid apps that users must buy. Users had to spend $12.99 (about $966) to acquire Cryptoholic - Bitcoin Cloud Mining, while Daily Bitcoin Rewards - Cloud Based Mining System Was cost $5.99 (around $445).

More than 120 phoney cryptocurrency mining programmes are still accessible online, according to Trend Micro. The business stated in a blog post that from July 2020 to July 2021, "these apps, which lack cryptocurrency mining capabilities and trick users into viewing in-app ads, affected more than 4,500 users globally."

Here's how to recognise a bogus cryptocurrency mining app:

• Carefully read app reviews: Once fake apps are made available to the public, they will obtain lots of 5-star evaluations. Pay closer attention to reviews with one star.
• Try to enter an inaccurate or invalid bitcoin wallet address: According to Trend Micro, if a user enters an incorrect wallet address and the software accepts it and can carry out subsequent actions, there is a good chance that the programme is a rip-off.
