Railways suffered a loss of ₹36,000 crore during the pandemic: Union Minister

Jalna, Maharashtra: Union minister Raosaheb Danve said on Sunday that the coronavirus epidemic cost the Railways $36,000 billion and referred to goods trains as the national transporter's primary source of income.

Additionally, he mentioned that the Mumbai-Nagpur Motorway, which is now being built, will have a bullet train project implemented along it.

At the laying of the cornerstone for an underbridge at Jalna Railway Station, the minister of state for railways spoke.

"The passenger train segment always operates at a loss," he declared. We cannot do it because the increase in ticket prices affects passengers. The Railways suffered a loss of Rs 36,000 crore during the pandemic.

"Only freight trains bring in money. These trains were crucial in transporting supplies and offering aid to the populace throughout the pandemic, the minister said.

When discussing the bullet train, he remarked that because it is crucial for the populace, construction will begin along the Mumbai-Nagpur Motorway.

According to Danve, work has begun on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project, which would link Delhi and Navi Mumbai.

He promised to double the number of tracks between Nanded and Manmad stations and stated that he would assess the viability of the Jalna-Khamgaon railway route.

Danve assailed his opponents, claiming that they were under constant attack. But after receiving criticism, I grow stronger," he remarked.

Rajesh Tope, the health minister for Maharashtra, who was present at the ceremony, announced that the state government has approved the construction of a hospital in Jalna for the care of those with mental diseases. He claimed that this facility would be beneficial to the Marathwada region.
